Succession planning is often forgotten about or in the “too hard basket”. It is an important part of business especially as the “baby boomer” generation heads towards retirement. Many small to medium (SME) business owners in particular are not adequately prepared for the ongoing sustainability of the business.

Businesses regardless of their size should have a succession plan in place to ensure the business continues into the future. This includes ensuring the business has the right key personnel to suit the plan that is in place. This can often be a long process over a number of years, therefore it is important and should be included in the business planning process.
